Hypnosis consultations for Chronic Pain
Migraines that set the rhythm of the calendar, a back that never quite lets go, endometriosis, fibromyalgia… When pain lasts, it spills well beyond the body: broken sleep, constant apprehension, activities given up, morale wearing down.
Our hypnotherapists see clients in Paris, Brunoy, Strasbourg, Saverne, Voiron, Montpellier, Saint-Gilles, or by video anywhere in France, with an honest aim: to improve your comfort and your quality of life, alongside your medical follow-up, never in its place.
Pain: a signal to respect before modulating it
The golden rule, first
All pain must be diagnosed and followed by a doctor.
We will ask you about it at the very first session, and that is one mark of a serious practitioner. To understand in detail how pain is built in the brain and how hypnosis modulates it, read our full guide to pain management.
The pain-stress-tension circle
Chronic pain almost always installs the same gearing:
- Pain generates stress and apprehension ("when is it going to start again?")
- Stress contracts the muscles and puts the nervous system on alert
- Tension amplifies the perception of pain
- Sleep gets worse, which lowers the tolerance threshold.
Therapeutic hypnosis support works on every link: deep relaxation you can anchor and call on at will, defusing the apprehension, restoring sleep, supporting morale, and above all learning self-hypnosis, your daily tool between sessions. Count on three to six sessions in general, becoming self-sufficient included.
Hypnosis in Pain Management
An approach French medicine knows well
If you have heard of operations under hypnosedation, of painful hospital care supported by hypnosis, or of pain clinics that include hypnoanalgesia, that is no accident: the modulation of pain by hypnosis is a documented phenomenon: brain imaging shows that suitable suggestions change the activity of the areas that process the intensity and the unpleasantness of pain.
Our own practice works in the same spirit, at its own level: we do not perform medical procedures, but we teach people who are under medical follow-up the tools that change the day-to-day experience of their pain.
The pains we support most often

- Migraine and headaches. Alongside your medical follow-up (GP, neurologist): self-hypnosis tools to call on from the first warning signs, work on stress-related triggers, and settling the apprehension between attacks, the kind that spoils even the good days.
- Endometriosis. A diagnostic wait that is still far too long, exhausting cyclical pain: alongside the medical pathway, our support helps you get through the flare-ups, handle the fatigue of recurring pain, and repair the experience of a condition minimised for years.
- Back, neck and musculoskeletal pain. Alongside your care (physiotherapy, medication): deep muscular relaxation and work on the fear of movement, that protective reflex which freezes the body and often keeps the pain going.
- Fibromyalgia and widespread pain. The pain-tension-exhaustion circle, sleep, gradually winning back activities, and acknowledging an experience that is real and was misunderstood for a long time.
- Irritable bowel and functional digestive pain. The brain-gut axis makes hypnosis particularly relevant here, alongside gastroenterological follow-up.
- Getting through an illness and its treatments. Dreaded tests, difficult care, the stress of bad news: hypnosis and self-hypnosis help protect your energy, your sleep and your morale, in step with your care team.
And when it is fear of medical care (the dentist, blood tests) that delays treatment, we work on that too: see Fears & phobias.
Your painkillers: one rule only
Never change your painkillers or any other treatment on your own initiative, neither up nor down, even if you feel clearly better. If this support improves your comfort to the point where a reduction seems possible, talk to your doctor: they alone decide and organise the adjustment. Many doctors welcome this complementary approach, as long as everyone stays in their own lane.

Frequently asked questions about Hypnosis for Pain Management
Nobody can promise you that, and be wary of anyone who does. The realistic aim: reducing the perceived intensity and the place pain takes up in your life (apprehension, sleep, activities), alongside your care. For many people that change in experience is major, even when the medical cause remains.
Perfectly, and some specialist services include hypnoanalgesia themselves. Our support in private practice completes that pathway: relaxation, daily self-hypnosis, sleep, apprehension. Mention it to your care team, since the two work together all the better when everyone knows.
Three things, alongside your gynaecological follow-up: self-hypnosis tools to get through the painful flare-ups, work on the fatigue and the sleep that cyclical pain wrecks, and easing the emotional side, the anger and the wear of a condition dismissed for years. Your pain is real; acknowledging that experience is part of the work.
Your comfort may well improve to the point where it is worth raising, but the decision belongs exclusively to your doctor. Never change a treatment on your own initiative, even when you feel better: some adjustments need close supervision. Take the good news to your prescriber, who will decide on the timing.
Generally three to six for chronic pain, with a large share devoted to self-hypnosis. Most of it happens at home, between sessions. To prepare for a specific dreaded procedure (dental care, a test), one to three sessions are often enough. Self-sufficiency is the aim: no endless sessions.
Not by the Assurance Maladie (state health insurance) for hypnotherapy in private practice. Many mutuelles (complementary health insurance plans), however, reimburse several sessions a year through their alternative therapies allowance. Check your policy, we provide an invoice.

- Living with illness — the lived experience of chronic or serious illness.
- Sleep and insomnia
Hypnotherapy is complementary well-being support belonging to supportive care: it makes no diagnosis, does not treat or cure any illness, and replaces no medical opinion, examination or treatment. Never stop, delay or change a treatment or course of care without your doctor.
