Hypnosis consultations for Emotional Regulation

Have people called you "too sensitive" your whole life? Or the opposite: have you become so self-possessed that you no longer quite know what you feel?

Overflowing or shutting everything down: two sides of the same missing piece: emotional regulation, a skill that can be learned, and one school never taught us.

Our hypnotherapists work with you in practice in Paris, Brunoy, Lille, Strasbourg, Saverne, Voiron, Montpellier, Saint-Gilles, or by video anywhere in France: feel just as much, overflow less, without turning into someone cold.

Understanding Emotions

Emotions are messengers, and regulation is a skill

No emotion is "negative": fear signals a possible danger, anger a boundary crossed, sadness a loss to take in, joy a direction that suits you…

The problem is never the emotion, it is its regulation, that capacity to modulate intensity and expression according to context, which psychological science defines precisely (APA — Dictionary of Psychology) and whose research shows it can be measured and learned (NIH — National Institutes of Health).

Turn the volume down, without cutting the sound.

A pure emotion works like a wave: it rises, peaks and settles within a few minutes if you let it run its course.

What makes it last: the struggle ("I shouldn't be feeling this," and what you resist persists), rumination that relaunches the wave on every lap, and the shame of feeling it.

Why emotions overflow in you

Highly sensitive? The trait has its own page

The term has taken hold in France these past few years, and it took that to name something real: some people feel more strongly, more quickly, for longer, and pick up other people's emotions like a sponge.

Let us be clear about what the bestsellers sometimes gloss over: high sensitivity is neither an illness nor a diagnosis, it is a temperament trait found in 20 to 30% of the population, documented by research for some thirty years.

If that sounds like you, our dedicated page is the one you want: it sets out the four markers of the trait, what the science actually says, the strengths it brings, and how to work with it without ever trying to feel less.

"Don't make waves": workplace restraint and its price

Person shouting, « FRAGILE » tape across the face

Our work culture treats emotion as weakness: you "keep your cool," you "stick to the facts," you cry in the bathroom rather than in a meeting.

That restraint carries a cost many discover late: a swallowed emotion does not disappear, it gets stored. And the pressure cooker empties in the wrong place (at home, on those closest to you) or turns into physical symptoms (tension, jaw, sleep; any lasting symptom deserves a medical opinion). Others push restraint all the way to numbness: no more overflow… but no more joy or drive either, and that question becomes impossible: "what are you feeling?".

What Hypnosis Offers for Emotional Regulation

Our approach: a wave is something you surf

In three to six sessions, generally:

  • learning to recognise the wave earlier (every emotion has its physical warning signs, and the earlier you spot them, the more choice you have);
  • surfing instead of drowning: training in a hypnotic state to move through an emotion safely, letting it rise, observing it, letting it settle;
  • turning down the volume of an overwhelming emotion without silencing it (the message stays, the tidal wave goes);
  • lifting the old rules ("boys don't cry," "be nice"): gently, at a distance, never by "reliving" anything painful;
  • learning to say it: speaking up while it is small rather than exploding once it is large (see Self-Confidence).

Self-hypnosis becomes your everyday tool.

When to see a psychologist or a doctor first

Overwhelming emotions that last for weeks and disrupt how you function, a mood that has collapsed along with your interest in everything, emotions tied to a trauma, or a total emotional emptiness that worries you: see a psychologist or a doctor first, these situations can be treated.

We will tell you so at the first meeting, and hypnosis can follow as a complement.
