Hypnosis consultations for Female Sexuality

Desire, pleasure, letting go…
If there is one area where the mind makes the weather, this is it. Female sexuality, perhaps more than any other, is played out at the crossroads of the body, the mind, each woman's own history and the relationship, and it only takes one of those threads to tighten for everything to seize up.

Our hypnotherapists see you in practice in Paris, Brunoy, Marquette-lez-Lille, Strasbourg, Saverne, Montpellier and Saint-Gilles, or by video anywhere in France, with the restraint the subject calls for and absolute confidentiality.

Understanding the mechanism: the mind and the body

First, the golden rule: the medical and gynaecological check-up

We say this first because it is the most important point: any persistent sexual difficulty, and any pain without exception, deserves a medical opinion first.
Physical causes are common and can be treated: hormonal (the variations of pregnancy, the post-partum period, breastfeeding, menopause, or a contraceptive that does not suit you), gynaecological, dryness, an infection, or the side effect of a medicine (certain antidepressants, in particular, blunt desire and pleasure).

Good news on access: in France, you can see a gynaecologist directly, without going through your GP.
And if waiting times are long where you live, be aware that midwives provide preventive gynaecological follow-up and contraception — still little known, and often far more accessible.

That is the first step, and a serious practitioner will ask you for it.
Hypnosis comes afterwards, on the side that medicine does not treat: the mental, the emotional, the learned.

This deserves underlining where pain is concerned: never hypnosis as the first line on pain.
Pain during intercourse has possible causes that can be diagnosed: ignoring them in favour of work "on the mind" would be a serious error.
The check-up first; support afterwards, often alongside the health professionals looking after you.

The "inner spectator": the mechanism that smothers pleasure

Many female difficulties of psychological origin share a mechanism we call the inner spectator: instead of living the moment, a part of you watches it and comments on it: "am I managing?", "am I taking too long?", "what am I even thinking about?".

Yet pleasure, like desire, is an involuntary process: it does not answer to orders, it answers to conditions (safety, relaxation, presence to your own sensations).
The more attention drifts into monitoring (or into the shopping list, or into the mental load of daily life), the more the body holds back.

Letting go is not a slackening of will: it is a state, and it is precisely the state hypnosis knows how to install.

The most common difficulties

Lowered or absent desire: an ecosystem, not a switch

It is the most frequent reason for consulting, and the most misunderstood, because people picture it as a mechanical breakdown when it is a smothered ecosystem.

Female desire is sensitive to a host of factors that often have nothing sexual about them:

  • the mental load — it is hard to desire when your head is still holding tomorrow's to-do list;
  • tiredness, stress;
  • self-image and the relationship with the body (after a pregnancy, weight gain, with age);
  • routine and the quality of the bond within the couple;
  • and sometimes a history in which pleasure had no right to exist: an upbringing, old messages, guilt installed early.

Let us be clear straight away, because it matters: there is no "right" frequency and no norm to reach.
The aim is never to make you desire "the way you should", but to lift whatever is smothering your own impulse, if that drop weighs on you.

Work in hypnotherapy acts on several of these roots:

  • easing the mental load that follows you into intimacy (see our Managing Emotions page);
  • reconciling self-image and the body;
  • giving pleasure permission again where old messages forbade it;
  • and reopening the mental space in which desire can return.

If the drop is sudden or comes with other signs (unusual tiredness, low mood, after giving birth or as menopause approaches), the doctor comes first. See also our Birth & Perinatal Care page for the post-partum period.

The difficulty of letting go and reaching pleasure

This is often the signature of the inner spectator in women: controlling everything, anticipating everything, never really "switching off", in bed as elsewhere.

Women who carry a heavy mental load, who manage everything, who are hypervigilant, describe it well: the mind refuses to let go of the helm, even in intimacy, and pleasure stays at the edge without ever breaking.

Hypnosis is in its element here: it is literally training in letting go.
Learning to move attention from the head to the sensations, to release control without feeling in danger, to inhabit the moment rather than supervise it.

That learning happens first in session, on neutral ground, then transfers to intimacy through self-hypnosis.
For many women, this work goes well beyond the sexual sphere: relearning how to let go irrigates everything else — sleep, stress, the relationship with perfectionism…

Pain and blocks: the check-up first, always

Pain during intercourse, involuntary contractions that make penetration difficult or impossible, apprehension that locks the body: the rule is absolute and without exception — a medical and gynaecological check-up first.
These situations have possible causes that can be diagnosed and managed, and some call for specific care: perineal rehabilitation (prescribed and covered, particularly after childbirth), dedicated gynaecological support, sometimes specialist physiotherapy.

Once that check-up is done, hypnosis can support the learned side of the problem, and it is often central: the fear of pain that contracts the body by anticipation, keeping alive precisely what it dreads, sets up a circle in which apprehension creates tension, tension creates pain, and pain reinforces the apprehension.

The work unties that circle gently: defusing the anticipation, reinstalling safety and relaxation in the body, teaching the body again that it does not have to defend itself.
This work is always led at the person's own pace, never forcing anything, and frequently in liaison with the health professionals looking after her.

After giving birth, at menopause: the body's great transitions

Two moments in life often bring women to consult, and deserve to be named.

The post-partum period: the body has changed, the tiredness is immense, self-image wavers, and desire keeps you waiting. This is very common and rarely said.
Here again the medical side comes first (healing, hormones, breastfeeding), then hypnosis supports the reconciliation with a body that has become another and the reclaiming of an intimate space that parenthood has swallowed (see our Birth & Perinatal Care page).

Menopause and perimenopause: hormonal variations genuinely act on desire and comfort. The check-up and, if needed, medical care are essential, and hypnosis then comes as a complement on the psychological side and the relationship with a body that is transforming.

In both cases, nothing is inevitable: these transitions are crossed, and often better with support.

A more satisfying SEXUAL LIFE with Hypnosis
Video transcript

I regularly receive clients who are experiencing difficulties in their sexual life. It can be a lack of libido, stress, discomfort with one’s physical appearance, frigidity, erectile dysfunction. Sometimes for as long as the person can remember or after a traumatic experience. Therapeutic hypnosis can help you improve your sexuality, simply because hypnosis is all about letting go and relaxing, and so is sexuality. Sexuality starts in the brain and translates into the body, unless of a medical problem that would need medical attention. During love making you might get stuck in your thoughts, in your head, observe yourself, judge your performance, instead of being in your body and in your sensations Today, pornography is commonplace, sexuality is public, and yet what happens between two people remains the most intimate, the most private thing in the world.

Hypnosis will allow you to align what is happening in your body, in your heart and in your head. The team of hypnotherapists at Solutions Hypnose is here to support you. In person at an office near you or by video, it also works very well. Make an appointment now to create your best life through hypnosis! See you soon

Hypnotherapy is a complementary form of support and does not replace medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have any concerns about your health, please consult a physician first.

Support, the couple, and its limits

The couple: working on your own part, without necessarily coming as two

Many of these difficulties are tied, and untied, within the relationship: what goes unsaid, what you believe the other expects, routine, the imbalance in the mental load that kills desire before the evening even begins.

Hypnotic support remains individual. You work on your own part: the spectator, self-image, letting go… but it often includes a communication strand: finding the words to speak about intimacy without wounding or shutting down.

If the difficulty is first of all relational (conflict, distance, reproach), it is couple work that takes over; the two can be combined.

When another professional comes first, and the framework of our sessions

Three situations call for other professionals on the front line.

Any possible physical cause: that is the golden rule, particularly where pain is concerned: doctor, gynaecologist, midwife.
Sexual trauma, next, past or recent: it is treated by psychologists and psychotherapists trained in psychotrauma, and it is not the ground of well-being hypnotherapy. We will ask the question tactfully at the first conversation, without requiring any account, and we will point you onward; hypnosis can then, as a complement and with those professionals' agreement, support the path.
Finally, situations calling for structured sex therapy call for a sexologist — many are doctors or psychologists by training.

On the framework of our sessions, complete clarity is called for given the subject: our sessions consist solely of conversation and hypnosis, fully clothed of course, in a strictly professional setting, with no other modality and no explicit content.
You share only what you choose to share: hypnosis works very well without details, and our practitioners will not ask you for any. Confidentiality is absolute.

Going further

Hypnotherapy is complementary support: it replaces neither a check-up, nor medical treatment, nor gynaecological, psychological or sexological care. Any persistent sexual difficulty, and any pain, deserves a medical opinion first; any trauma is a matter for specialist professionals.
